Green Day Celebrity Gossip and Music News

Murder in the Whitehouse?

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong would throttle US President George W Bush if the two were left alone together - and he'd enjoy doing it.
The Boulevard of broken dreams star singer fiercely criticises Bush's conservative regime on the band's Grammy-award winning album American Idiot, and would love the chance to get more physical.
When asked what he would do if Bush came to watch him perform, Armstrong says, "The first thought that came into my brain was like, I'd like to choke him."

Greenday Album Inspired by Thief

Rockers Green Day owe the success of their Grammy-winning album American Idiot to thieves who stole the masters they were working on as their new project.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong admits the theft made him so angry he was inspired to write some of his best material, which led to the group being nominated for seven Grammys and picking up Best Rock Album on Sunday night.

He says: "It ended up being good because we were readying ourselves to go where we hadn't gone before."

The punk star was so annoyed he left his wife and kids for a month and went on a hate-filled bender to find fresh inspiration.

He adds: "I drank a lot of red wine, and vodka tonics. I was searching for something. I'm not sure it was the most successful trip."

On returning home, Armstrong caught TV news footage of the war in Iraq and decided to write an album full of songs about his feelings for modern America.

Bassist Mike Dirnt isn't fretting about the stolen tapes. In a message posted on the group's website, he wrote: "My only request is whoever's got those songs, if you put it out, put a decent cover on it."

Alternative Medicine

A Welsh Green Day fan emerged from a coma after listening to the band's Grammy-winning American Idiot album, according to the BBC. Nine-year-old Corey George of Aberaman, Wales, had been in a coma and on life support for two weeks before his family played the "punk rock opera" for him. Within an hour of hearing the disc, George reportedly woke up and began moving his fingers and toes.
George was hit by an SUV while crossing the street on his ninth birthday. He has been taken off the critical list, although he is still unable to speak or move. Green Day reportedly sent a box of CDs and other merchandise to the boy after hearing the news of his emergence from the coma.

Green Day to feature on Advert

The American Independent Film Channel (IFC) will use the Green Day song "Jesus of Suburbia" from the album American Idiot to help promote the channel in a series of ads. Rolling Stone reports that IFC will incorporate the song into promotional campaigns throughout 2005.

"To live and not to breathe is to die in tragedy," - Green Day, "Jesus of Suburbia," American Idiot
